Functions of The Mountains

The holy Qur'an directs our attention to the important geological function of mountains. And We have placed on the earth firm mountains, lest it should shake with them, and We placed therein broad highways for them to pass through, that they may be guided (Quran Sura Al-Anbiya : 31) As can be seen, it is stated in the verse that mountains work to prevent turbulence in the Earth's surface . This fact was not known by anyone at the time when the Qur'an was revealed. In fact, they have recently been revealed as a result of discoveries of modern geology.
